Starting with "Intent" will help you come up with better ideas for things to draw.

Having a step-by-step process can help you focus all your effort on individual stages, such that each stage is done well. Adjust the process to suit your needs.

It beats trying to do everything at once and experiencing epic phail. :D

It's those first three things that are often overlooked... Intent, Action, Flow. When you have a good drawing process, each step makes it easy to do the next step - the work seems to finish itself off.

Yup, just 6 steps, and you really only have to remember the first three - Intent, Action, Form Flow. The other three, Form Placement, Line Placement and Line Quality come naturally.

I never thought of different stages in drawing... Thank you so much for the useful info! It makes drawing so much less intimidating. I always have an idea in my mind, but it never comes out right. Maybe this will help?

Might I ask how you started off with drawing and where it has gotten you? Considering your other videos, I'm guessing 3d modelling, but that's just my intuition speaking. This is possibly the best video I have seen on this subject in a long time. I plan on using these steps to improve my drawings, little by little until I reach my goal of becoming a good artist/painter. You could have a number of intents, from trying attract attention. Trying to relax. etc. If someone is alive, they are doing something, even if they are not aware of what they are doing. Even characters in aesthetic pose do something if they are alive, no matter how mundane. As you think deeper , you consider why they want to do this or that, and how that motivates their intent. Whenever you draw a character, you are telling a story, even if you were not planning on doing it.
