George Li performed this at the 40-year service anniversary celebration concert for Stephen Best, the music director of the First Presbyterian Church in Utica, NY, on Oct 2, 2010.
George Li and Aristo Sham are the greatest child prodigies in the world. You'd be happy to hear a pro play like this, actually you'd be surprised to hear Lang Lang play in this mature manner without making stupid facial gestures!
The Finale is easily up to tempo as well. Wide dynamic range and some thrilling passages here. Absolutely natural Rubato. Technique all there (I know there are many wrong notes, but people don't realise quite how phenomenal this music is to play live!)
I know this piece backwards because my friend Alvanis has been performing it since 1980. Mind you, he was 20 at that point and it is astonishing that a 15-year old can tackle this kind of virtuosic repertoire. You adopt a lively tempo for the first movt. performing super-musically in almost a Romantic manner which I've never heard before (but it works!) You know what you're doing in the complex 2nd movt. which audiences find testing. You think in long phrases which is major accomplishment.
