Olympics '08: U.S Loses Softball Gold Medal

The U.S. Olympic softball team was denied a fourth straight gold medal, losing 3-1 on Thursday to Japan in the sport's final appearance in the games for at least eight years. (Aug. 21)

There are two main reasons Japan won gold.

First, the Japanese pitcher, Ueno, got a new breaking ball, but she kept it secret. It was a special pitch prepared for the U.S. After it was thrown, American batters had no time to adjust.

Second, Japanese team studied so hard that they figured out the habit of US pitcher. The batters knew what she would throw, rise or drop.

Japanese worked harder , then they won.
