When travelling from the UK to Europe or Russia it is best to have your vaccination at least eight weeks before travelling.

This is not always possible but in any event you should make sure that your existing vaccinations for the UK are up to date, such as Polio and Tetanus. If they're not, you should arrange booster jabs.

Courses or boosters usually advised for visiting more remote parts of Russia such as Siberia or the Chinese border area are: hepatitis A; diphtheria; tetanus and poliomyelitis.

Depending on exactly where you are travelling to you may also need typhoid; hepatitis B; rabies; tick-borne encephalitis or Japanese B encephalitis.

You are not required to produce a vaccine certificate when visiting Europe or Russia but it does no harm to carry one with you.

Children over 9 months are required to have a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if they have been in an area which has a risk of yellow fever transmission

Malaria is not normally present in Europe or Russia except in south western parts of Turkey between May and October
