Not mustard gas. Probibly not chlorine either. Chlorine is green and doesn't diffuse in air as well as phosegene, the nerve gas. So its probibly phosgene.

Not mustard gas, it's phosgene. Mustard gas would have turned their skin to bubble wrap. BTW the scene is from the TV series young indiana jones.

@nebfer Who weant to be burend alive? and who want to be shot dead? In war its all same intimidating man... And rifleman would easy take care for flamethrower. It was more used for killing power for trenches and later in ww2 bunkers.

@Schwertization this is ww1 you know

If mustard gas burns the flesh, why is no one covering their exposed hands and heads at 1:40? I think it's chlorine gas then.

Why was no one firing their rifle?

@RFKFANTS67 they are not french, but belgians... and the 1.5 millions of french soldiers who died during WW1 weren't forever retreating I think...

from which film is this?
@summerdying111
It's a lot more than 4 men with a flamer thrower if you look at it, and Flamethrowers are very intimidating weapons. Their used a lot more for their psychological power than their actual killing power. As in who wants to get burned alive? Also the the (modern) flamethrower was first used during WW1 by the German Army. So they also probably have not seen such a weapon before.
