Karamea River-New Zealand West Coast. A helicopter took us (4 Kiwi's-Deane Parker-Super Guide, Jodi,Tony, Lisa and Dave from Alaska) down one for the most challenging, remote rivers in New Zealand. It had been raining for 48 hours and the river was raging, class IV-V and Vl. Portage around class Vl over house size rocks made the adventure even more memorable. We only came close to flipping the 12 ft. raft in a hole once but some well place high sides multiple times and Deane's magic got us out full of water. One of the most beautiful, challenging, and wild water adventures I've ever had!
Nice video. We were in there for the better part of a week this month. How many Cumecs?

Thanks for the movie dave. I hope to go into the Roaring lion hut late in 2010 I figure it in in the 4 to 5 min part of the show? I have been looking at the river for 5years or more 2010 is the year. I will fish her this time but would love to raft her some time.

Dave, You have confused the word "river" with the word "portage" ! That looked like one big portage to me! Dang. And that was flood stage? I'd hate to see it when the water was low. I've flown in to paddles before, but never on a heli. MOST impressive! udaman !
