Simulation of a typhoon, to be experienced individually on a chair in the centre of the storm.
The installation consists of a huge transparent cylinder with inside a seat for the visitor. Pushing a button creates a whirlwind of polystyrene pellets. What Malstaf considers fascinating in this vertiginous experience, is the aspect of surrender: "The installation is without literal message, but simply provides a catalysing context that creates experiences or memories in the manner of a Socratic enquiry." The artist likes to compare this surrender with the feeling of being engrossed in a movie. "In Lost Highway David Lynch succeeds in manipulating the intellect through what we experience which I consider quite a feat. The fact that Lynch accomplishes this, has to do with our conditioned view on things. History and science are things we are taught in dogmatic ways because of the enormous need for accuracy. Yet our experiences are to a huge extent biassed by our memories. What we feel has a tremendous impact on our thoughts."

While I was inside observing, I happened to cross my eyes. The effect was sensational, as the "waves" moved in slow motion and had a lot more depth.
