  • his flute playing has gotten even better

  • so sad to see such a great musician struggling so hard to get the words out, & barely in time if not a little late. but they remain one of my all time favorites. the madman flautist, it was just genius.

  • @Qballfph Yes. It's sad his vocals are lacking so these days.

  • nothing to do with the recording then eh?

  • IA had, I understand, a throat condition that left him with little mileage in his throat. He did as little as possible vocally on line performances to save the remaining miles for studio albums. He makes up for it with flute. Martin Barr was one of the most underrated guitarists in the world, I think. He certainly makes my top 20.

i'd be gutted to see them again and miss Martin's guitar, but they have to duck in and out - 40 years and still going - how long can they carry on for?

  • He didn't kick him out, he left to pursue his own musical career. Plus he was replaced in a way, but never actually was "kicked" out.

  • Ian is not singing with the rest of the band....

Out of the beat not rare from him nowadays. Too bad!

  • I saw Jethro Tull YEARS ago in Burlington, Vermont, USA and Ian's voice was completely shot THEN. There was a dramatic contrast that night, as just across the street was a Jethro Tull tribute band who KICKED SERIOUS ASS. The vocalist sounded like Ian in his hey-day. I'm a serious Tull fan, but Ian Anderson lost his ability to sing YEARS ago. Roots to Branches was my last favorite from them. Anything after that, the vocals are too weak to merit a listen.

  • A musician can place a note anywhere in reference to the beat as it is reproduced on a metronome. Either 'spot-on,' 'slightly ahead' and 'slightly behind.' Most musicians can decipher in this video that Ian is singing 'behind the beat' or 'on the back side of the beat'. A quick check in on the tempo of the musicians and the idea of them rushing is silly. MB is completely on point, and Ian is no slouch either!
