Over forty years ago, while the Soviet Union only dreamed of putting a man on the Moon, the United States' first manned mission to the Moon occurred during the Christmas season of 1968. Apollo 8 launched on Dec. 21, 1968 and returned to Earth on Dec.27, 1968
Interestingly, the last mission to the Moon, Apollo 17, was also during the holiday season. Hope you enjoy.
NASA photos are from the Apollo 8 and Apollo 17 missions. The holiday cards are Soviet Union postcards popular during the early "space age".
