In Forbidden Lies, filmmaker Anna Broinowski investigates the case of Norma Khouri Bagain, a Jordanian women who wrote the best selling Forbidden Love, a supposedly nonfiction book about an 'honor killing' that allegedly took place in Amman. Forbidden Love book was interpreted by many Jordanians, including prominent women, as an misrepresentation of Islam. As the book's errors and impossibilities were pointed out, Khouri's story and reputation began to fall apart.

  • Could no one tell from her accent that she had obviously spent many, many years in the US and not Jordan.....?

  • Her book is popular because some white people in the West WANT to believe that Arab people are barbaric and savage. It helps them feel superior. At the same time they don't want to scrutinize the big problems in their societies and cultures.

  • I'm Jordanian and it doesn't make alot of sense to me, that books@ cafe is actually the popular place where gay people hang out, and it serves alcohol, i don't think a woman in hijab would go in. and who said women in jordan have limited career options! i came here because i thought i was suppressed because my parent's won't let me stay out after midnight, well this is something else!!

  • @fromwilliams actually they have. Check out /watch?v=Z82C10myBmM to see first part of the documentary.

  • There is another Norma Khouri, her name is Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I am surprised no one has exposed this fraudster.

  • @hudfadz Parents very rarely kill their children in the West. This woman is a fraud, but honour killings do occur with some frequency amongst islamic communities in the UK for example. Of course there's a huge variety of cultures within the muslim world and this gets lost in western media outrage. But the outrage is pretty understandable when you hear about fathers and uncles burning their daughters and nieces alive. The wikipedia entry on 'Honor Killing' has numerous examples.

  • "honor" killings? The west has so made that world to stick to the Arab culture, yet in America there is much more honor killings that are called "murder", how many men and women kill each other in the west for infidelity? Etc, is that not honor? How many crimes of passion or attempted murders happen in the west due to this? Amazing. Plus this bitch is a fraud

  • @hamzasat no. u want peace. learn to forgive. violence only beget more violence, discrimination only begets more discrimination. Our forefathers of the Crusades and of the Moroccan Genocides are dead, over and all their warped teachings and rules are non existent. Why fight, condemn and discriminate. That sounds very much like you hamzasat, and i don't want to believe that but you are giving out the image that you are. We are all ambassadors to our faith, so respect others as well like it or not

  • @creepingdeath211 if you want peace, stop suport on like this crazy bitch who write this book . forbiden love .

& stop occupation on our lands

  • @glower125 u noe, that's exactly what my distant cousin said before he ran into a building and blew everything up to smithereens.
