A lot of people, faithful and skeptic, struggle with whether or not Hell is a fair and Just punishment. So let's talk about that.

  • First off, Christ said to fear Him who can destroy both body and spirit. This means God can very well destroy the soul. The wages of sin is death. Not torment. The true punishment as the Bible claims is that the sinful will not have everlasting life. The eternity without God is simply death. The soul is gone. Destroyed. To be tormented in a physical place is objectively immoral. God cannot stand anything that violates his righteous character, therefore allowing torture is also in violation.

  • @bladenstick

Define torture. For all I know, watching The View on tv could be considered torture. So what do you mean?

Also, please cite passages that you're referring to so everyone can take a look and not have to take your word for it.

Saying that God CAN destroy both body and spirit is obvious because he's God and he created everything. But nowhere does it say God WILL do any such thing, so you're claim has no foundation. But if you want to believe that, that's fine.

  • "Glory be to God, above all that they attribute to Him"-Quran 59:23. Do you seriously believe what you are saying? God is All knowing, All Seeing. He very well knows your whereabouts even in hell. How could Jesus be punished if he is god? Cuz he isn't. PS- Jesus won't be going to hell TURN TO ISLAM.

  • God bless Jesus. God bless you, and may he speak to you about the truth.

    Peace

  • What do you mean when we choose sin?I didn't choose sin,an innocent baby didn't choose sin.If we all came from Adam and eve and they did know god on a first hand basis then a religion based around God would have been the first religion.however if you study history you will realize that the Abrahamic god wasn't the first. you cant dance around it Hell isn't fair.We were not given the same situation as Adam and Eve we were "born into sin". Jesus was Resurrected later means it in not a sacrifice.

  • Every institution where u reject the rules and rebel, kicks u out. But God creates a world and u and then u rebel and he gives u chance after chance and even suffers the punishment that u deserve, and u still rebel. Yea u get kicked out and out of Gods presence is hell. God tries to warn ppl that it will feel like fire but instead ppl whine and moan that its not fair while they continue their rebellion.

  • lol, so what about all the people who lived before Jesus came and the bible was written? What is you, Chris, had been born in 450B.C in Athens, Greece? You wouldn't even know a Jew was! You wouldn't have any idea who the God of Israel is or the Law or Jesus or any of it. Did people scattered all over the world during that time deserve hell?

  • would someone who loves us so much really send us to an eternity of pain and suffering?

i believe in god and im faithful

    im kinda just confused?

  • Acts 8:11 in fact.

  • Besides that, you can always resort to the old "man's sense of morality/right and wrong was corrupted when he committed original sin" argument. The devil got to us a long time ago, according to Genesis, therefore we can't judge what's right and wrong morally. We have to leave it up to millennia-old writings who may or may not have gotten God's supposed message right. Take it on faith, Christians, as usual.

  • Actually, the ultimate trump card for these types of arguments is really obvious. According to the tenets of Christianity, God is the creator of all, including morality. Thus, if he says you should go to hell for acting on natural sexual impulses before you can tie yourself down with some contrived, man-made tradition like marriage, then he is inherently right. I mean, think about it. He created rightness and righteousness, so whatever he says is righteous, we must assume IS RIGHTEOUS.

  • When you are not used to the light and avoid it, when you are in its presence it burns you and blinds you. That is not the light purposely doing that to you however, that is the nature of light. That is not a willful torture as punishment. I believe that is really the only way out of the conundrum we face. I appreciate your comments and your polite demeanor. I hope I`ve returned it as well. =) Thank you for the discussion.

  • For Unknnn,

I`m sorry, my friend, but I`m still not convinced. If God is higher, then objective morality would be EASIER to see in God, not more difficult. It is true that we humans don`t know all that much, but we can deduce logically what is not moral or not just. The way out of this dychotomy is to say that the only "torture" is metaphorical for those who have rejected light. When you are used to light, you are warmed by it. It makes things clear for you... continued...

  • If an objectively moral being is in the presence of true torture and does nothing about it that being is no longer objectively moral. The true moral being has a moral obligation to stop immorality and injustice even if it befalls the immoral and unjust. Now, there is one element of this that we haven`t mentioned, and I feel it is the only real way out of this dychotomy. I will explain it down below.
