Lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi.........

Lata Mangeshkar (Marathi: लता मंगेशकर; born September 28, 1929) is a singer from India. She is one of the best-known playback singers in the Hindi film industry. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over six and a half decades. She sang in over a thousand Bollywood movies and has sung songs in over twenty regional Indian languages, but primarily in Hindi. She is the elder sister of the equally accomplished singer Asha Bhosle and lesser-known singers, brother Hridayanath Mangeshkar and sisters Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. Lata is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.

Awards and recognitions;

Lata Mangeshkar has won several awards and honors, including Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989), NTR National Award (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001), three National Film Awards, and 12 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards. She has also won four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards. In 1969, she made the unusual gesture of giving up the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award, in order to promote fresh talent. She was later awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.

In 1984, the State Government of Madhya Pradesh instituted the Lata Mangeshkar Award in honor of Lata Mangeshkar. The State Government of Maharashtra also instituted a Lata Mangeshkar Award in 1992.

Government of India Awards * 1969 - Padma Bhushan * 1989 - Dada Saheb Phalke Award * 1999 - Padma Vibhushan * 2001 - Bharat Ratna * 2008 - "One Time Award for Lifetime Achievement" honour to commemorate the 60th anniversary of India's independence.

Maharashtra State Awards * 1966 - Best Playback Singer for Sadhi Mansa (Marathi) * 1967 - Best Playback Singer for Jait Re Jait * 2001 - Maharashtra Ratna (First Recipient)

National Film Awards; * 1972 - National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Parichay * 1975 - National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Kora Kagaz * 1990 - National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Lekin

Filmfare Awards;

The Filmfare Awards for playback singing first started in 1958. In 1956, the song 'Rasik Balma' from the film Chori Chori won the Best Song Filmfare Award. Lata refused to sing it live in protest of absence of a Playback Singer category. The category was finally introduced in 1958. Though, separate awards for male & female singers were introduced later on.

Lata Mangeshkar monopolized the best female playback singer award from 1958 to 1966. In 1969, Lata made the unusual gesture of giving up Filmfare awards in order to promote fresh talent...........

  • This is as yet another fabulous and haunting melody that got straight to the heart and stayed there unchanged for the past six decades along with its fantastic memories. Heard initially on Radio Ceylon transmitting on Short Wave 19 metre band from across the Indian Ocean , it was thereafter taken up by our local radio station, Radio Mauritius, that introduced the island to the most captivating and magical voice of young Lataji.

  • Yuanji, this was the young Lata's voice the whole nation fell in love with...........Sachinda was a great composer no doubt, perhaps the greatest, given the variety and the extent of his music; Salil gave the most lilting music and as for Hemant Kumar, one only wishes he had given music to more films. But to say OPN was dull in front of them just exposes Mr. Roy's prejudice. OPN and C Ramchandra gave the most rollicking music, and soft emotional songs as well where indicated. They were all GREAT

  • S. D. Burman, Salil Choudhury & Hemant Kumar are My all time favourite. O. P. is very Dull to them. Bengal has given So Much to Bollywood without expectation.

  • I was Mad to get original one after hearing its repetion by other Artiste. I knew the original one must be better. I think what I Want to Say !

  • I like this song very much for its lilting melody. My childhood memories are attached with this song due to natural acting by Nalini Jewant.

  • ultimate song...

  • THE BEST SONG IN THE WORLD.

  • @orientlover1 This info is incorrect. Sahir got a break in Hindi films under Sachinda and was successful right from the 1st film, thanks to SDB.

  • @yuanyuanyuanyin your memory is amazing yuan ! but then you yourself are amazing ! LOL ! thanks for the lovely song once again ! i am enjoying it immensely !

  • good song of lataji and sahir sahab

  • It is said that Sahir Ludhianvi wrote several songs for other poets who used them in movies under their own name. He was reportedly paid a few hundred rupees for each song. It was after a few years that he established himself in the film industry and started writing under his own name.

  • @sunainashok - You are most welcome, my dear friend.

  • Beautiful song sung by the singing queen of India Lata ji. Thanks yuanyuanyuanyin for giving us an opportunity to listen to this song

  • @sjalcapricorn - You are most welcome, my dear friend.

  • My father got a cassette of old songs recorded in Ahmedabad in 1977 and was quite fond of it. I loved this song the most in it and played the cassette enough times (just for this song) to spoil the magnetic tape completely on it. Thanks Yuan for rekindling old memories. This sons was, is and will always remain close to my heart, especially the start - it really seems an angel is singing.

  • @DrSelvaPillay - You are most welcome, my dear friend and thank YOU for the kind words.

  • Hi Yuan, you undoubtedly have a most fabulous collection of these classic haunting melodious gems . Very best wishes to you

  • @mahesh1946 - You are most Welshmen, my dear Uncle Uma.

    May God bless you.

  • Good morning Beti.

    The first song Sahirji wrote was ""Badal Rahi Hai Zindagi" with another 3 songs for film "Aazadi Ki Raah Par (1949)". But neither the film nor the songs could become popular. And this song from film Naujawan with Burmandada music sung by Lataji hit the records bringing recognition to Sahir Ludhianviji at the time he was struggling for a living. This song paved the way of prosperity to him remaining on top till todate. Thanks for loading this song

    Blessings

    Uncle
