Teams compete on Motocross bikes and quads on a road course style track for 6 hrs. The Alberta Endurance Ice Race Series (AEIRA.COM) runs from late January to March on lakes near the Edmonton area with six 6hr races and one 24 hr race. "The Numb Bum" Teams consist of 2 to 5 riders and there is separate classes for solo riders who can enter the 3hr or 6hr class.
To go ice racing you need a tethered kill switch (mandatory) Professionally built tires as the traction is better than a sport bike on a paved road course - see jtitmus@telus.net. Sheet metal screws do not work, are unacceptable and dangerous. If you have electrics to power a light you can use that power to install heated grips or bring a box off hand and toe warmers. Handle bar muffs are a must. To stay warm and safe you must combine motocross gear with snowmobiling gear.
1 roll of duct tape.
This is a very safe form of racing as the tracks are wide and the respect level is at it highest due to the studded tires.
Fun factor - 10 out of 10
Good luck,

Awesome video! My favorite part is the heli-shots. Too bad a guy couldnt get his hands on a stabilizer mount for shots like that.

That was my first time recording in a flying object and a stabilizer would have helped but it would have been better footage if the pilot would have flown closer. I had the zoom really far out and the 10min of heli footage I got only had a few good shots. Glad you liked the video,
Chad.
