Made this clip for Rhoda in NY who is trying to rehab a puppy mill dog. Took these videos several months ago
Working with 3 different dogs rescued from a puppy mill, Snickers, Breeze, Micah. Teaching them to follow a human and accept as their leader. This is a couple of excercises done with them. (for the off leash "using the pack" part- If you only have one other dog, use him/her/ if your own dog won't follow you off leash, then put your dog on leash trying to coax the rescue to follow. At first you may need a leash on both dogs. hope this helps.

  • Man, if I can ever have a dog I'll get a puppy mill rescue! An older one instead of a puppy, I think that would be best. Poor dogs! Saw a video today about a mill dog named Barney; they were grooming him for the first time in his life and his pads were all sored up and he was caked in all sorts of icky stuff! I'll never buy a dog or other animal from a pet store. :(

  • Thanks for your comment and also your great opinion regarding adoption over pet store buying of dogs. You are right on The older dogs do need someone special who can accept that as they are and make a real committment for life. Great insight you shared. thanks again

  • It's wonderful to see dogs being worked with to learn how to be what dogs are meant to be...part of a family.

  • Thisbook, thank you very much. you are kind and appreciated.

  • you are a wonderful person i too rescued a puppy and her mom from a puppy mill in kentucky

  • thanks beeizurfantac, very kind of you. you must be pretty wonderful yourself! Hope your rescue's are doing well. It is so rewarding, isn't it? watching these poor babies learn about life being a good thing afterall.

  • thank u carolyn0. i brought a wee puppy mill survivor a few weeks ago. she's doing great. she's a wee Chihuahua n she's catching on 2 the puppy pads. i'm SO proud of her. we've had a load of snow so i won't take her out just yet. u've done an awesome job, here. thank u for the "lessons"

  • This is a great idea. I do it but not quite this way. I have two mill rejects coming in. One poodle mix has given up caring and a schnauzer who is fearful. When they are ready I think I will try this exercise with them. I know my other dogs will enjoy it. Thanks for putting it up.

  • thank you icninia7, very kind.

  • Wonderful work...that is awesome. Beautiful dogs.
