nanoHUB.org is a community web site that offers "online simulation and more" services to over 90,000 users annually free of charge. Over 150 simulation tools are available and over 1,600 other content items ranging from research seminars to complete nanotechnology classes are hosted on the nanoHUB. At this we believe that there is no other scientific gateway which hosts as many content items to as many users.
The rapid deployment of over 150 simulation tools in just over 4 years has been enabled by 2 critical software developments: 1) Maxwell's Daemon: a middleware that can deploy at a production level UNIX based codes in web browsers, and 2) Rappture: a software system that enables the rapid development of graphical user interfaces and data management to new and legacy softwares.
This reviews briefly the Rapid Application Infrastructure toolkit (Rappture) in terms of its philosophy and general code structure. Further details can be found at * http://www.rappture.org * What is Rappture? https://nanohub.org/infrastructure/rappture/wiki/whatIsRappture * Getting Started https://nanohub.org/infrastructure/rappture/wiki/GettingStarted * Documentation https://nanohub.org/infrastructure/rappture/wiki/Documentation * Downloads https://nanohub.org/infrastructure/rappture/wiki/Downloads
