Thanks Joe! This was from my Master's Recital a few years back, it's always funny giving it a listen since my interpretation of the piece has changed over the last few years. Hope all is well with you!

Serious question, because I just don't know where to find the answer. Does the F tuba really improve solo quality compared to the BBb? Also, any tips on how to get the extremely high notes? Or is there a valve you push that aids in this

There are tuba solos that work better on BBb or CC, but most of the harder solos work better on bass tuba (in Eb or F). This is because the F tuba sound is generally lighter and nimbler than a BBb or CC tuba, and high notes are easier to hit accurately on bass tubas because those high notes are located lower in the overtone series on bass tubas. high notes can be risky on BBb or CC tubas because of how close the partials are up there

As to your second question, to play high you need to be blowing air at a faster velocity. Conversely, for low register playing the air must be thick and slow in velocity. Avoid excessive pressure or tension in the face, and it can be useful to shift your air stream either upwards or downwards as you buzz into the mouthpiece; I myself blow downwards as I move into the upper register

Nice film. Youtube is fantastic for this kind of thing. My best friend had been bullied. He explained he was gonna grow muscle mass. I didn't believe him. Right up until he added 40 pounds of genuine lean muscle mass. He used the Muscle Building Bible - look for it in Google. Not a soul dares to intimidate him these days.
I subscribed last week. Not to mention the guys emails are interesting!!!

I'm in 8th grade and trying to play this piece. It's really hard. Especially with the huge jumps. It sounds great though. Nice work.

Thank you for your very professional and quick response. I must admit, I'm a very decorated and experienced tuba player that has recently dove into the realm of the unknown. I've played BBb my entire 13 years of playing, but as I've recently become a member of a very prominent band I have come fact to face with a lot of difficult adjustments as well as directions I can go. You are very talented tuba player and thank you for the advice :)
