Born in Durban ( Umlazi), South Africa in a traditionally rich Zulu heritage, Mlungisi was raised by a family highly influenced by Gospel music.

At the age of 7, Mlungisi started performing in the choir at the Assembles of God Church. It was here that he received his recognition as a young artist. He performed extensively around Durban throughout his schooling days and acquired a lot of skill and experience in his field as a performer.

After high school, Mlungisis journey began when he recorded a live album with the largest and most popular group in South Africa, Joyous Celebration. On this album he was featured as a soloist. This was an award-winning project at the South African Music Awards (SAMA).

It was year 2000, when Mlungisi started a group called EL-TEE, released by Universal Music South Africa. He produced and wrote this single, which reached the top 3 in the charts, on radio Zulu national top 20, in South Africa.

Mlungisi then worked with internationally acclaimed singer Miriam Makeba of Pata Pata and the Click Song, also known as (Mama Africa). He fulfilled the role as a backup singer and featured soloist as they toured around Europe and America. The highlight of this adventure, as Mlu advises, was the collaboration they made in Hollywood with the 90 pierce Symphonic orchestra of the Hollywood Superbowl. Here the idea was to combine the influences of Afro music and the Western sound, which is evident on Mlungisis sound.

Mlungisi then came to Sydney, Australia as an original cast member of the Broadway musical production of the Lion King in 2003. Here Mlungisi was part of the singing ensemble, and was once again, a featured soloist.

Mlungisi has now entered a chapter in his life, whereby his life lessons have enabled him to tell his own story and share with the world the gift that has made him travel and reach the hearts of people of different colour, race and nationalities, through the collaborative form of songs.

He has just finished his debut album called Enhanced, which is set to up the level of rhythm and blues, dance and Afro music.

Singing cleanly from tenor to soprano, there is no doubt Mlungisi did not need backing singers at all for this album. Listen to one of his songs, and I am confident you shall agree with me

Mlungisi or Mlu as he is more commonly known is a Blue Pie artist. He is available at all leading digital retailers on the planet. Search on "Mlungisi Mthethwa"
