if i install windows on my mac using boot camp
will my mac which has 2gb of ram dedicade 1gb of ram to each software( mac os and windows) and reduce its performance?

It will not use 2 GB for windows. it will only use whatever it needs for that instant through virtual memory. The Mac OS will use ALL of the 3 GB memory and depends on how much parallel needs, allocates that memory. 3 GB is more than enough for my MacBook and I only allocated 1 GB for the windows.... I don't use boot camp since its much easier to use a windows image. also reinstall of a windows image is easier if ever windows becomes corrupt (virus, etc), which for me is almost often....

Does running both operating systems at the same time slow down your computer? If so how much? What type of Mac do you have? How old is it? Did you always have Leopard or did you upgrade from Tiger? If so is it worth it to upgrade?
Sorry for the million and one questions. You don't have to answer if you don't want.

This is a first generation MacBook which means it came with Mac OS X Tiger, a minute 1 GB memory (shared with video card), and a 2GHz processor. With only basic Windows program running, it runs smoothly--no slowing down at all and feels so much faster than the Windows in my old PC. I do suggest, however, to put as much memory as you can since it will greatly improve performance. It is worth having this program since it can allow you to run WIndows apps.

For a free option, you can use VirtualBox instead. Its also a virtualization software that allows windows inside Leopard.

Ok i will be asking a stupid question...can you run windows and OS X on one cmputer at the same time?

Yes, this is what parallels desktop does. It is still running in OS X and windows is running on a virtual system, which is what parallels does.
