The latest experimental feature in Musical Pro for Android is a "light-up" play-along piano for practicing using the touchscreen piano. It is now available in the Android Market and is a free update for all current Musical Pro customers. For those who haven't yet made the upgrade to Musical Pro (from Musical Lite, which is free), it is still just $1.99 in the Market.

When a note is to be played, the corresponding key lights up in red (it is difficult to see in this video on the black keys) and the program waits until you press it to continue. As you play the song, Musical provides a chordal accompaniment in the background at the tempo you play.

This video demonstrates the 3 songs, When the Saints Go Marching In, Twinkle Twinkle, and My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, played on an Android G1/Dream (but it also works just as well on the Magic/MyTouch)

  • wo kann man denn so eine Software herunterladen??

  • @Flashy1995 Android Market

  • Is the Pro Version faster than the light ?

I got the light and the Keysound comes like 0.2-0.5s after I press the keys, whats really anoying.. but here in your demo its a lot better.

  • It sounds like something might be wrong with your phone (or too many background apps?).

There shouldn't be any difference between the Pro and Lite version, and this video is running on the G1, which (as far as I know) is the slowest Android phone you can buy.

What phone do you have? Do other applications run slowly as well?

  • @csvy Well sometimes the Keys of the Keysboard are also a little bit slow.. but that varies.

I've got a Samsung i5700 Spica phone, with Android 1.5 and since a couple of days Andr. 2.1 there are lags in all piano apps. To this date I thought the problem is the slow Java because the spica with 800mhz should not be the slowest phone..

  • Yeah, I'm not really sure then. 800mhz should be more than enough (video was filmed on ~500mhz). Upgrading to the Pro version definitely won't help though--they both use the same base components for input and output. I've never tried a Samsung Android phone, so I unfortunately don't have much more information than that. If other apps have similar problems, it is likely an issue with Samsung's customized version of Android.

  • @bercerk It even lags on Galaxy S. It has a 1 GHz Cortex A8 (2x faster than an 800 MHz ARM11).
