Enthusiasts everywhere have reason to celebrate, as Intel has released the their new Socket 2011 computing platform!

The new socket (and the new X79 chipset) will support 2nd Generation Core i7 processors, a.k.a. Sandy Bridge-E. These CPUs are based on the same 32nm manufacturing process as the popular 1155 socket Sandy Bridge CPUs, but feature additional cores, native PCI-E Gen. 3, and a big performance bump over Nehalem (socket 1366) and Sandy Bridge (socket 1155) procs.
Enjoy!

  • It must be better, its box is black.

  • For gaming there are countless benchmarks out there showing no perceptible difference using this chip from the i5's and i7's, Where it does kick ass is in multi threaded apps, number crunching, video editing. So all you gamers need not get down at your recently purchased mainstream chips. The 3 to 8 hundred dollars you saved will buy you allot of beer.
