Snake charmer community living in India is as old as India but now there are so many issues related with them. Many people say that snakes living with snake charmers die earlier than when they are free in the nature because snake charmers mistreat them by breaking their venom teeth or taking their venom out but nothing is clear yet because not many people have studied this community or their behavior with snakes yet. The snake charmer community is legally banned in India but its not hard to find them at all.
As per Hindu religion, snakes are considered to be necklace of Lord Shiva hence they are very respected in the Hindu society. Snake Charmers catch the snakes and work as street performers.
The snake charmer community says that they have always been dealing with the snakes hence they have best knowledge about them. They demand the government to train them so that they can know more about snakes and take their venom out and sell it to the pharmaceutical companies wanting snake venom to produce medicines.
Their demand also seems genuine because pharmaceutical companies has to buy the venom for sure so why not from the snake charmers?

  • They are performers and travel from one place to other all the time. I did not invite them. I met a journalist who has studied snake trafficking and he said that Varanasi has already become a major place for snake trafficking. They send snakes to China and West Bengal. Do you see the health of the snakes? It clearly seems that they were caught recently!

  • These snakes almost certainly have had their teeth removed. There is nothing respectful in what they do.

  • Did you invite these people to your home or did they just show up at your doorstep?

  • Nice cobras!
