After having purchased a toy button accordion through eBay, I played it and played it only to find the reeds were going out of tune particularly on the melody side. And, through much contemplation knowing I had a spare C/G accordion sitting in the cupboard, I thought I'll put the reeds to use in a novel miniature version. This video is designed to capture all of what took place and to give my viewers an insight as to what is involved.

  • Thanks for the request. Don't really have any more accordion projects in the pipe line. Have a great week!

    Hector.

  • hey man what kind of wax it.....

  • Beeswax. Candlewax doesnt work. More common to have beeswax and resin/rosin mixed together.

  • This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much, you're a genius!

  • I'm pleased you came across my video. Glad you can benefit from my experiment that actually worked. Let me know how you go! Thanks. Hec.

  • Thanks! I'm going to get me little mate into playing something cheap to start with to suit her tiny hands. I wasn't surprised to find the toy accordion was a bit off (for $50, what dyou expect?). Your vid got me started and I found another vid on tuning and sounding the reeds. Now it plays well, so yeah, we'll learn it together.

  • Awesome I always wanted to see the inside of a accordion

  • I'm so glad to find this video. My sister-in-law gave me a toy accordion years ago as a joke and it became part of my act - even play it on our CD. I've been looking for a replacement but can't find one that I like because the quality control is so loose with these Chinese ones. I've got a leaky bellows. Seeing yours open has inspired me to fix my own and/or buy a few toy ones and pick out the best reeds.

  • An Erika in C/G was my first melodeon. And although I agree that you are a really skilled mechanic, it breaks my heart to see that Hohner's organs being transplanted into the toy accordion.
