Pioneer of AC power Charles Proteus Steinmetz - a short film on him. Rescued from archives of degraded video and film this rare film examines one of North America's greatest scientists. Charles Steinmetz was an immigrant from Prussia who carried German expertise with him. He further developed his skills in America working for Eickmeyer, and later General Electric. He lived in Lynn, then moved to Schenectady in 1895. His work resulted in today's A.C. power grid. Unlike Edison who stuck by DC, Steinmetz was the internal company force that led the AC work. He taught at Union College, and helped other engineers freely. He was not an egoist, patent chaser, or self-promotor. GE's PR promoted him heavily at the time as their "Wizard" to boost GE's public image. Thomas Edison and Steinmetz had a tenuous relationship due to their different personalities. Edison still highly respected Steinmetz.

Edison wanted Direct current used for his lights, and i wonder if the socialists left us alone to evolve on our own, if we wouldnt have had solor and wind on our houses, that ran our lights.
