Hogan Hip slide in Backswing

The better you get and the more balls you hit, this movement will develop in your swing, as you get a better sense of timing, momentum and uninterrupted flow. It means the swing from a waggle, through forward press, through to backswing through transition to forward swing is uninterrupted; as opposed to swing-key, start, stop; swing thought (such as hip-turn), downswing...
Too often in our keenness to improve, we neglect to incorporate flowing natural movements into our practice sessions

This is a perfect transfer of weight to the forward leg at just the right timing. If you can copy this you will be surprised, but be quick to "pull" your left hip BACK from this point and keep your head back. No I am no expert , but this move has helped my swing very much.

Nicklaus makes the same move.
Need anything more be said?

@dso1986 well put dso

@patkrebsgolf Page 90...."Turn your hips back to the left. There must be enough lateral motion forward to transfer the weight to the left foot. The path the hips take on thedownswing is not the exact same path they traveled as they were turned on the backswing.....their 'arc" should be a trifle wider on the downswing."

i would have to say yes, there is a forward hip movement, but if you try to make an athletic pivot without trying to slide your hips, you rhips would move forward around that much when you filmed it so yea i don't think you should consciously be sliding forward you'll probably over cook the "slide" by 10 inches

I just recently started studying Hogans swing and I notice, may be wrong, but I dint see jis weight transfer to the right side, it's like most of his weight stays on right side?
-
the one thing that no one mentions here is something almost every pro misses as well - that Hogan makes his lateral move BEFORE he reaches the top of the backswing. from there, all he has to do is to use his legs to turn his hips which turn the torso, as hard as he wants, tearing thru the ball. there is no weight shift "to start the forward swing" with Hogan - he already did it in his backswing. from this position, he CANNOT hit it left.

the hogan HIP SLIDE. if U can master it , along with THE SECRET, the sport becomes almost 2 ez.
-
hogan did mention lateral slide, how did you miss it in five lessons. Read it again!
reading all of these comments illustrates the biases in the interpation of the golf swing. ben hogan slides his hips forward on every swing, as does any golfer who can play. you guys are just having a hard time justifying it.

I think this commentator deserves alot more attention - he knows what is happening!!!! I guess if he didn't slide his hips he would have to not move them too much in the first place - no?? Kind of keep the weight on his left side, or on his "turning point" as John Schlee reports that Hogan described.

yes, but interesting that you picked his 'older' swing before he made the famous changes that led to the modern understanding of the golf swing. notice how high his hands were. this swing isn't the 'classic hogan' swing, that came later.

Did you watch all the video? Only the 1st swing is pre-accident...all the rest show the same motion...hips move towards the target whilst the hands move back.
