OK, this is one of my tunes....

Here is a bit of a new tune I'm working on. I decided to call it "First Fall Snow" as I wrote it on the evening of our first real snow fall a couple weeks ago. I wrote after playing in a coffeehouse with a little bluegrass band I'm a part of call "Boulder Bluegrass". I was actuallyl pretty sick the evening of our performance and I came home and I was too "awake" to go to bed so I started playing around with the Collings guitar I had used at the coffeehouse. The pull off lick was pretty fun and I used that for the A-part and then I really liked the moving bass over the melody in the B part, and I need to write an intro and bridge, or C part for it. Sorry, it's a bit repetitious at the moment, but I think I can turn it into something pretty cool. I'd like to have it up and running for the Christmas gigs and is has a happy holiday-ish sound. I find it funny that I never really move out of first position, but it still really fun to play though.

  • Nice hearing this instrument voiced in an alternate tuning; I am a student checking out Collings OM-1 as a good used option (why start with junk, the badly-assembled Art Lutherie I am trying to learn on is a struggle and sounds like a piece of cardboard, LOL!)

Collings are really known for Dreadnought-bodied bluegrass/flatpicking instruments but I like what I'm hearing in these clips... cheers!

  • @TubeFreakJonas Hey Jonas. I have to say that goofy little Collings is becoming one of my favorite guitars. It will certainly be a lot more fun to play than the Art/Lutherie guitar. Also remember, a good set up will greatly help. Have fun with your playing and thanks for leaving a comment.

  • Haven't seen much from you recently, but this is another good one. Nice to see you on YT again.

  • Thanks for listening and leaving a comment, I have actually had a really busy fall and first half of winter, so I haven't had time to sit down record stuff. Things should be settling down in the next 6-8 weeks so hopefully I can get some newer stuff up in the future. Keep checking back, sooner or later I'll get some new videos done...lol.

  • This is such a good feeling song. I feel the warmth from over here. Anyway, keep up the catchy tunes and stuff.

  • Thanks so much for the comment and taking the time to listen. I finally came up with a third part for the tune so I'll post the entire version in the up coming weeks. I am really pleased with how this tune turned out. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to leave a comment. I'm pretty amazed at how nice it turned out. I was actually pretty sick when it came together, but I made a recording so I wouldn't forget what I played...lol. I really enjoy Martins, but I have to say, that little Collings is really fun to play. It really has it's own vibe.

  • Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to listen. It still needs a little work but I think it's going to turn into a pretty cool little tune. It does have a nice groove to it, doesn't it. It's a blast to play.

  • Great original. We can feel the happiness of the first snow fall on childwood time. Pretty good sound from that Collings.*****
