Paul Colman's "Amazing Grace/Jesus Loves Me Medley" expressed in ASL. Although this is my ASL interpretation of the song, it was done as a lab requirement for my interpreting class. Therefore, it is not necessarily how I would "perform" this if done in a church, youth group, festival, etc. setting.

And yes, I got too caught up with my "hallelujahs" toward the end and nearly forgot the last line of the song! Sorry! =)

Enjoy!

Lyrics:
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see

Hallelujah (repeat)

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Hallelujah (repeat)

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Then when we'd first begun

Hallelujah (repeat)

Jesus loves me this I know
For the bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak but he is strong

Jesus loves me when I'm good
When I do the things I should
And he loves me when I'm bad
Though it makes his dear heart sad

Hallelujah (repeat)

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
Amazing grace how sweet the sound...

  • To all others - thanks for feedback and encouragement!!

  • Garnkurven - Very neat! I love all foreign languages, so it's always great to hear differences. In the states, ASL is viewed as its own language. Though some features are similar to English, it is not based on spoken English. Some forms of sign language (such as Signed Exact English [SEE], Conceptually Accurate Signed English [CASE], etc.) do use the mouth movements like in English. It really depends on the D/deaf or hard of hearing person's preferences and which is best for the situation!

  • Jkatelyn -- I searched forever for the song. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly where I finally found it. It is by Paul Colman. This is a version I used to sing in a bible study group, and I have always loved it.

faithfulfunny - thanks for the encouragement!! I continue my education in ASL and Deaf culture everyday and hope to bridge gaps in communication to the best of my ability whenever possible!

  • CiaoBella -- Thanks for the feedback!! Unfortunately, this video was done in a very tiny, cinder-block room in front of 2 other people and a video camera...! Not very calming for the nerves, lol. Also, this video was being turned in for a grade....I find that my natural, less nit-picked interpretations are much better. I really do appreciate your feedback though and will certainly work on incorporating more emotion rather than a look of just pure concentration!! haha

  • Thank you all for the comments!! I am sorry that I have not been keeping up with all your responses...! I do appreciate them very much.

dodgebyrd -- I am hearing. This is a variation of the song "Amazing Grace." This version includes different verses and is called a "medley" which means it is multiple songs combined into one. This is why it doesn't look like the usual "Amazing Grace" Great observation!!

  • Sorry...it was recorded in wide screen and showed up as full screen....so I'm a little smushed/blurry. My apologies!!!
