http://chris.pirillo.com/how-to-control-your-windows-desktop-with-kinect/ The Minority Report featured some incredible theoretical technologies, some of which have continued to interest geeks for years. One of these technologies was a system in which you are able to interact with the user-interface with a few hand gestures Now, imagine if you were able to control Windows 7 in much the same way?

LockerGnome community member Kevin Connolly has managed to recreate this using the Kinect SDK in a project he calls the KinectNUI (Natural User Interface). Currently, the project works with a single Kinect and any modern Windows PC.

You can find out more information and download a copy of the project's source code here:

You can see a whole series on the KinectNUI project on Kevin's YouTube channel:

Please feel free to leave a video comment demonstrating your use of the Kinect SDK or the KinectNUI project.

  • now you can use the force

  • i knew the sdk has been around fr a bit i might dive into some hacks :)

    Thanks for the inspiration

  • got #screens nice setup i could tell right away you had intelligence

  • esta muy bueno

  • @Clarensee have you looked at other stuff o youtube? they made a simulator for BF3 and skyrim. Those years are closer than you think

  • @Clarensee That's kinda ignorant, he's really a genius who's showing off a tool from a gaming console that has the potential to allow awesome gestures to replace certain functions. Sure it's not super practical, but a lot of people could get a lot from it, not to mention his gestures are awesome.

    Dive in!(zoom)

    Force!(window grab)

  • @Clarensee Lol. This was an independent project, A.K.A. Made by one person. If we can reach that level of precision with one person using tools that are readily available, we're very close to having an additional way of computer input, though we likely won't be replacing the mouse any time soon.
