Implementation of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) for local governments and companies is a task that has gained ample attention in recent years. Different categories of spatial software such as desktop GIS, server GIS, web map servers, spatial database management systems, web map development toolkits, etc., are required to realize the software components of an SDI.
This is an overview of free and open source projects that develop and maintain GIS software that fit within these categories.
Helpful presentation. I'd like to ask the presenter in the video a couple of questions. Does anyone have contact information for Stefan Steiniger?

Good vid. Enjoyed your lecture. It sounds like if the entire SDI process was implemented using FOSS say for an organization, additional software functionality and updates would make the IT group (me) pretty busy, or for the most part a small team gearing up for a good adventure (rugged but fun one! ). Cheers! :-)
