This is a mockup of my current side project of designing an improved iPhone notification system. Unlike other attempts at improving the iphone's notification system, my approach is to use design direction from the current iPhone UI to create a seamless interface for the user.

This is purely theoretical. There is no code behind this; I've mocked this all up in Flash and Photoshop. If you wish to help me turn this notification system into a reality then ,by all means, contact me.

I plan on uploading a live walkthrough of the notification interface on Monday night so stay tuned! (Edit: It's up! View it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_FqiE5Km7A&sns=em)

  • You're right about the lock screen UI. My design works great for unobtrusive in app notification but doesn't hold up all that well on the lock screen. I'm playing around with a few ideas. Also, I'll play around with the twitter style pull to refresh / show all notifications, though, I'm loath to over complicate things. I may have to pull a Steve Jobs and say if you want to see all notifications then you can just double tap to bring up the notification history.

  • i like how this i swhat the ios5 notifs actually look like

  • @crasherball If it had an option for 'auto disappear' after a set amount of time (3,5,10 seconds etc.) then this would be near perfect.

I think one of the best samples I've seen so far. Looking forward to see how iOS5 copes.

  • i personally dont like it because it hides your notification bar.

so basically you HAVE to read the notification to see your batterystatus and stuff like that

  • This is neat. Do you think since the notifications appear at the top, the swipe to reveal all notifications should also be at the top, functioning similar to the "Pull to Refresh" UI in Twitter for iPhone? To me it seems logical to group the different notification UI elements all in the same half of the screen; either all in the top or all in the bottom. What about UI when screen's locked? The bottom swipe might not work there. Keep pushing it, you might end with something even better.
