i use to smoke pipe tobacco. onetime i was in the barbershop trying a pipe out and the barber kept on lighting it up for me -- showing me how to light one up..like he didnt want me to start smoking a pipe! i gagged..opps..

i have no clue about that but, I would assume in heating it up some how? so, it might make it easier to clean?

well its an essential tool for any piper..the cake is essential element in preserving the tobacco taste and decrease the heat as well as protecting the briar,,yet it decrease in use as u smoke especially aromatics so u cn get the cheapest remaer for few bucks and its like scissor and u enter it inside and start screaping the excess hope tht helped
