  • thats called fog. almost every video i saw on youtube about beijing shows a blue sky. this misleading video does satisfy the anti-china and anti-chinese youtubers especially those slumdogs, titbetan terrorists, jap war criminals so forth and so on. living with envy is a great pain

  • It might be called fog where you come from, but it was definitely smog. I've never seen brown fog before. I spent eight hours at the airport which was enough time to know that it was comprised of pollutants.

  • it could just be fog.

  • It was brown, and it was not fog.

  • It's SMOG, not fog people. Take a course in weather before you make dumb conclusions.

  • I've been to Beijing and lived there. Six out of 7 days I didn't see the sun and it was declared a sunny day. It's no wonder many have moved to the USA.

  • So thats why chinese people were wearing those masks awhile back. It wasn't fear of catching the SARS disease, it was because they couldn't breath without them. I don't blame the olympic athletes one bit for wearing masks!!!

  • What was that wheezing sound?

  • I see, apologies for the "fog" post then ! thanks for your reply. Out of interest, because my future is taking me out in that direction, what were you doing in Beijing for 3 years, if you don't mind me asking?

  • All i have to say is: wind. That is why hongkong typically looks cleaner, as well as shanghai. But, there are more factories on the western area of hongkong. Put it this way, Where i lived 3 years ago, there were mountains right next to my building. Only, i didn't notice until 6 months after i moved in when it was winter time. It is pretty bad when you can't see mountains right next to you. Of course it is getting a little better for the olympics because they are shutting down factories.

  • Of course I do not deny that the levels of pollution in Beijing are unacceptable or do I dismiss the seriousness of the problem. I look forward to your reply.

  • ok, you obviously know more than me, but how would you explain the differences in the pollution, sometimes the smog is a lot worse than other times ? I was there for a month and experienced some very 'smoggy' days and some relatively clear (for Beijing) days, surely the pollution levels must remain at a fairly consistant rate, and wouldn't change daily, which is why I think that natural atmospheric conditions must play a part in the how smoggy it can appear to be.
