whats that cutting tool called like?

It's a rotary cutter (called that because the blade is a circle and turns as you use it for a smooth and easy cut). :)

How do you use a rotary cutter? I have one but for some reason cannot get a smooth cut. It's brand new and I have only cut fabric with it (or rather tried to cut fabric) Do I need to use a certain amount of pressure? Maybe I do not push hard enough or I am pushing too hard? Also, shoudl I be using a soft mat under the fabric or is my regular hard cutting surface suitable? Thanks for any help.

You must use a rotary safe mat underneath. If you don't you can damage the blade and your surface. Once you're on the right mat use a firm amount of pressure on the cutter and on a ruler. Cut right along the edge of the ruler using it as a guide to stay straight. I hope that helps.

When I first saw this, I thought it was pretty cool, and maybe I'd make one. I made my first one last night--about 13 in. long, 1 1/2 in. wide with purple fabric. I finished it with a ladybug button in the middle. I loved it so much, I made four of them today! Thanks so much!
