Nate Hardisty was fired from his job, not based on his performance, but instead based on the tattoos he was hired and promoted with . It's 2011 people, this sort of closed mindedness is really not helping anyone.

  • There's no need for close ups. These rallys are meant to help break the stigma associated with tattoos inside the work place. the only thing there is a need for is more open minds. There's no hate involved here, just a desire for equality and a whole lot of not understanding why tattoos are perceived so negatively.

  • Google "nazi tattoos" and you will see some of the artwork Nate has on his body. NBC 10 has a video on their site showing Nate's tattoos, search "fired tattoos" on their site. This isn't about society not accepting artwork on the body, it's about society not accepting the symbolism of a murderous regime.

  • I know Nate, and I am familiar with the place he used to work. Nate does indeed have quite a large number of Nazi tattoos, and I can see where they would be found offensive to people. They are on his arms, and on his head. Now, there are two sides to this coin. Personally, given his work history, I don't agree with his firing, however, he was working in a position where he dealt with the public daily, and unfortunately it was only a matter of time before someone got offended.

  • Stupid manager. Just set him up and fire him for something else. Don't see too many PhD's with ink but many box boys. When I was clinical director at a college there was a therapy student with studs in the back of his neck. He couldn't enter the MRI room at hospitals and wouldn't get rid of the rivets. I expelled him.

  • @awful8484 misused yes, but the person with the tattoo doesn't have an "ss" on his hand, it's just a band symbol. runes are what our written language is based on. does that mean everyone who has an "s" in their name is a nazi, just because some psycho decided to misuse it over 70 years ago? i've seen a whole lot of lightning bolt jewelry over the years in trendy shops in the mall like claires and hot topic, are those stores promoting nazi ideals because of what they carry? it's all about context

  • look it's pretty fucking simple, YES you should have freedom of expression and art, YES people should respect your rights to it. FACT not everybody approves of ink, FACT some people are intimidated by it, FACT if you're gonna get inked up to the point of not being able to cover it, THEN GET A FUCKING JOB WHERE NO ONE GIVES A SHIT! get in where you fit in. quit trying to change the world.

  • i'm all for freedom of expression, BUT, maybe you should have thought about this kinda shit before you got tattooed? just saying. if your employer overlooked your skills and personality, and fired you based on your ink, then fuck him, you were unappreciated there, and are better off now. QUIT BITCHING AND UPDATE YOUR FUCKING RESUME! the time and energy you spent 'protesting' could have landed you a decent job, instead of you sitting there whining about 'tattoo tolerance'.

  • @benleclair i watched the video and didnt see anything nazi. Maybe they didnt show what the customer was offended by. I did see the one on his neck, that wasnt a sticka. They didnt show the SS either. If he has anything on his body that is nazi (whether he wants to take the high ground and say that the sticka is ancient and meant something else) it is naive to ignore its historical significance. I have ink on my arms, but cover them at work. my job and supporting my family is more important

  • Fired because he chose his individuality over conforming to the "Social acceptable standards". What a crock of shit!!! To me, as well as many others I'm sure,... this qualifies as discrimination! So one OLD guy saw the tatts how HE wanted to see them and he bitched..... boo fucking hoo old man! The world has changed drastically since your hey day. Get over it!

  • I apologize if this has been asked already, but does anyone have a picture of the offending tattoo that got him fired?

Though my tattoos are all in places unseen in business attire, I still agree that employers should work towards being more open-minded regarding visible artwork. My employer only started allowing visible tattoos this year, and the company's been around since the 70's. The fact that this issue occurred two years after hiring and promotion is just ridiculous.
