  • If I remember correctly, Elio wasn't driving for Lotus anymore in 1986. And this crash was at Paul Ricard, around mid-season.

  • of course Elio de Angelis was killed in a testing accident at the fast first turn,at circuit paul ricard built at le castellet

  • It reminds me that around the same time under similar conditions, Canadian driver Bertrand Fabi crashed to death during a private session (F3000 or F3 car or similar) without any marshalling on a UK track.

  • @RimRiderQC driving a brabham bt 55

  • @RimRiderQC Yep, Brabham...

  • quanto mi manchi, Elio...

  • A major influencing factor was that up to 1986, FIA did not enforce the same level of marshal and emergency response standards for test days as they did for the GP events which meant at the time of Elio's accident, the marshal response time was poor and the time it took to get him to hospital was poor (race day events had helicopters available by 86). Tragic and totally avoidable if the Marshals had been race day equiped and prepared; Elio's death changed standards for safety on testing runs.

  • he was driving a Brabham

  • Jarno ha provato la Lotus di Elio De Angelis ...

    ciao elio

  • he was poisoned by gas of fire extinguishers.

  • they say in the uk we have the best track marshalls infact the last race ov 2009 they paid british track marshalls to come over and watch there race

  • My first 'in the flesh' experience of F1 was Elio screaming down clearways at the 1982 BGP morning practice. I was a very young kid and he was a kind of hero at the time. Awful images. Strange how we feel compelled to watch them.
