Roving Report: Ayub Khan (1)

Report describes the intentions and achievements of Ayub Khan who is trying to transform Pakistan from a poor and backward society into a prosperous and democratic state.

Film illustrates the contrast between ancient and modern in Karachi and Lahore and the continuing reliance on primitive methods of irrigation in the country. In an interview, the President outlines his political beliefs: government must be strong enough to eradicate the economic and social evils which were tolerated by corrupt officials of the previous government and, after legislation on land and legal reform, people must be taught meaning of democracy.

How times have changed. Can you now imagine an American Journalist, Asking a Pakistani President of current Pakistan If the other Asian Countries would follow Pakistan's Model?

Man, o, man, where did we go wrong after Ayub Khan. He was a brilliant man, wish we had someone like him. Musharaf, was thinking he was like Ayub Khan, but Musharaf was not even 1% capable as this brilliant man.

President Ayub did not only talk, but he did what he said. May God bless his soul.

@gr8Tanoli I am an Indian but w/out any political biases I have to say I agree w/ you on this... It is so painful to watch a nation that had so much in common with India (as both people shared a common language/culture/history) turned into ruins by its Generals... Imagine if Pakistan had not suffered this Ayub Khan disaster and Democracy was given a chance, just 20-25 more years... How progressive a nation it could've turned out, not an enemy but a partner of India in trade, defense, education.
