Mel's P.o.v

I didn't dwell on it. I couldn't. The thought that I may have missed my chance once more was....physically painful. I blinked pitifully as I dropped my forehead trying to discourage my tears I could feel rapidly appearing. I shuffled my feet along the pavement as I set off on the short journey back to my flat. It wasn't my home I had realized that now. My home was anywhere that my family, friends, the people that mattered in my life were. My flat was just a place to live...never a home.

I reached the main road easily but was taken aback by what I saw when I did. Police lined the street a complied by both fire engines and ambulances. They was an accident on the main road a big one. Traffic queued back as far as I could see in both directions. The drivers and passengers looked worn and tired as I passed them by on the side walk. They had been sat there a while and as I past the actually crash I knew they'd be there for a lot longer. I closed my eyes sighing softly. A truck had turned on its side taking two cars and motor cyclist with it. The entrance to my road was completely blocked off as I bargained with the police officers to let me through. No one was going to be able to get out of my road, not for a good few hours maybe more. Not in a car that was for sure.

I could feel the officer watching me closely as I descended along my road. Cathy the manager of the diner had tried to persuade me into ringing the police about nick on a few occasions. I wasn't the only one who had spotted the consent return of his car, the fact that it left whenever my shift ended. No Cathy had shown her concern and for one moment I had indulged in it with her. For a moment I wondered just who could really be inside that car and Eric's accomplish had haunted my sleep for nights to come. Yet that night when my eyes had met his I knew it was nick. Having him there each night when my shift ended didn't scare me in fact it made me feel safe. It was a feeling I hadn't felt in a long time. It was a feeling both my father, and nick could only really bring out me and nick had done it without even trying.

The bitter wind and sirens in the distance made me feel unsettled as I neared my apartment. The area wasn't the safest of places to live yet it was cheap. My breath hung in front of me in a cloud of smoke as the night's temperature continued to fall. Turning into my apartment building I hesitated slightly, the door to the building was ajar. Nerves started to build making my mind go into overload. That door was always shut, always. No one ever left it open. Each resident had a key and they made sure they had to use it. Taking a deep breath I tried to clear my mind of panic, I was only being silly. A door being left open was an everyday accident there was no need to panic. Shaking my head I walked firmly on making sure to close the apartment's door safely behind me. Unable to stop myself my hand went to my trousers pocket placing my phone. My fingers tips traced the outline of its shape as I made my way up the flight of stairs to my level. Number six.

My head down I pushed my hip against the door to my corridor rummaging through my bag in search for my keys. My hands scraped across the contents of my bag, my eyes straining to looking into the bottomless darkness. The cool surface of the metal key brushed my fingertips. Smiling a sigh of relief I wrapped my fingers around them extracting the set of keys from my bag. They always did seem to find their way right to the bottom. Laughing bitterly at my own twisted fate I finally looked up towards my door.

"Melody"

My breath stop rigid, my muscles freezing in place as my feet seemed to root themselves to the floor. Everything suddenly became very still yet my heart had become frantic. My hands began to tremble as I felt the rough outlining of my keys dig into my palm. I decided in that moment never to underestimate fate. It was what had leaded me here, what had leaded him.

"Nick"

Q. what was the last film you saw?
A. I saw Death at a funeral. That film was hilarious. I actually think I was laughing every moment of that film. Chris rock is a funny man.
