Gruszkad thank you SO much for posting the words to this beautiful anthem. I am a musician and did not know of this. Now that I know it is Gounod I will try and find it. This entire film is of a genre that just is not around anymore. These films were so infused with goodness and morality that people were also infused with the same goodness and morality. Pity the films of today do not mirror or cannot even attempt to duplicate such warmth and goodwill. I wish this entire film were posted on YT!

O sing to God your hymns of gladness, Ye loving hearts your tribute pay, Your Lord is born this happy day, Then pierce the sky with songs of gladness, Disperse the shades of gloom and sadness, Your Lord is born this happy day, O sing to God your hymns of gladness, O Word of God for us incarnate, By faith we hear Thine angels sing, Their hymns of praise to Thee their King, We join with them in adoration, We bore to Thee our supplication, That Thou wouldst, Grant us Lord, Salvation!

If anyone cares to know or does not know, this anthem was composed by Charles Gounod with words by the Rev. B. Webb in 1885. Lovely, isn't it?

My absolute favorite part of any Christmas movie, and this one is best. Thanks for posting. Each year this is a must-see. And the lyrics are just beautiful.

Then pierce the sky with songs of gladness, Disperse the shades of gloom and sadness, Your Lord is born this happy day, O sing to Him your hymns of gladness.
O Word of God for us incarnate… O word of God for us incarnate; by faith we hear thine angels sing. Thy blessed angels sing their hymns of praise to Thee their King. We join with them in adoration; we join with them in adoration. We pour to Thee our supplication, That Thou wouldst grant us, Lord, salvation.

Then pierce the sky with songs of gladness. Disperse the shades of gloom and sadness; Your lord is born…this happy day…O sing to God your hymns of gladness.
O sing to God your hymns of gladness, Ye loving hearts your tribute pay; Your Lord is born this happy day.
(The rest is in a second post...too many words)

To Ddiamond who wanted lyrics. At end of this clip go down about 10 videos and just above Irish be thou my vision. Select the 9 minute clip and that has the lyrics posted.
I only wish I could get this song out of my head! Every time I watch "The Bishop's Wife" in December my eyes well with tears when I hear the Mitchell Boys' Choir perform this piece. It's uplifting and amazing! Thank you for gracing YouTube with this clip!!!
