- The steep cliffs of the Bering Seas fjords and islands should, by all reason, be barren but they are swarming with birds and mammals that depend on the frigid water lapping the rocks. Fulmars, puffins, kittiwakes and terns flock together to compete, breed and mate in the spring; the young birds, like their parents, take to the open sea for winter. Harbor seals haul out on the rock to relish the sun between dives.

- Les falaises abruptes des fjords et des îles de la mer de Béring devraient, en toute vraisemblance, être désertes, mais elles grouillent d'oiseaux et de mammifères qui dépendent des eaux glaciales qui baignent ses rochers. Fulmars, macareux moines, mouettes tridactyles et sternes s'y retrouvent en masse pour rivaliser, s'accoupler et se multiplier au printemps ; les oisillons, comme leurs parents, s'envolent vers la mer en hiver. Quant aux phoques communs, ils se hissent sur les rochers pour se dorer au soleil entre deux plongeons.
