Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913 -- April 22, 1994) was the thirty-seventh President of the United States from 1969 to 1974. During the Second World War, he served as a Navy lieutenant commander in the Pacific, before being elected to the Congress, and then serving as the thirty-sixth Vice President of the United States in the administration of Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. After an unsuccessful presidential run in 1960, Nixon was elected in 1968, and re-elected to a second term in 1972.
Under President Nixon, the United States followed a foreign policy marked by détente with the Soviet Union and by the opening of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Domestically, his administration faced resistance to the Vietnam War. As a result of the Watergate scandal, Nixon resigned the presidency in the face of likely impeachment by the United States House of Representatives and conviction by the Senate. His successor, Gerald Ford, issued a controversial pardon for any federal crimes Nixon may have committed. Nixon is the only person to be elected twice to both the office of the presidency and the vice presidency, and is the only president to have resigned the office.
Nixon suffered a stroke on April 18, 1994 and died four days later at the age of 81.

As a Democrat, I can honestly say Nixon wasn't a bad president. Take watergate out of his presidency he was extreamly successful presidency. Reopening relations with China, strenthining our relations with the Soviet Union, helping to bring the cold war to an end, ending Vietnam, creating the EPA and more. The only thing he did wrong was covering up Watergate. Very underated.
I really liked Nixon and also Reagan - both great Presidents. Certainly I trusted Nixon far more than this terrorist Osama we have in there now. Americans are really stuipid as shit voting for this idiot we have in there now. This guy ought to get shot !! Americans better wake up and smell the coffee ! I voted straight conservative in 06 and 08 and before that. But give a vote to women - and it spells disaster these days.
to all who have only seen frost nixon and never read a history book or lived through it and was politically interested at the time then you have no right to speak frost nixon was meant to show a bumbling reporter as a hero he got something said that everyone knew whupdy doo
I agree with ya. Nixon was a good president. I hate it that whenever people think of Nixon they think Watergate. They completely ignore the things he accomplished during his presidency. He reopened relations with china. He got us out of Vietnam. Just to name a few examples. Nixon is awesome.
Excuse me, but Nixon was a devout Quaker who thought that segregation was an abhorrent practice, and worked around the racist governor George C. Wallace to promote tolerance for African Americans. He also opened many channels of diplomatic ties with the Chinese and Russians, and abolished the gold standard and promoted wage and price control.
You're fucking stupid, only focusing on an event which you probably have no knowledge of anyway.
The corruption of LBJ, Clinton, etc. was shocking. Kennedy was never even elected save the mob stuffing ballots in Chicago. Which Nixon was aware of and choose to accept defeat rather than drag the nation through such thing as mob fraud and voter re-count. And yet it is true that he was obsessed with 'enemies' which drove him to obviate due course in the public office he held. The sad irony is that it was par for the course he may have been better than most.
