good lord.. new trucks with traction control etc, the electronics pick up wheel slip and shut down he jake in stages faster than you can with only using brakes.. being scared of the jake is old school mechanical stuff.. my jakes are on at 100% nearly all the time, exception of in town or REALLY slippery.. like he said two stepping the jake is the only way you can make some corners, or even stay straight on the mud in the patch.. oh, and ive been driving for over 22years

Good way to slow down while its raining and you gotta slow down quick at stop light either that or run the light which is safer

Where we run sometimes we have only one lane of rd and some turns are very tight.. With everything locked up the tractor tends to push and not turn when you need it to, so a trick is to set your engine brake on high and as you start to turn let off the fuel , jake kicks in transfers weight to steering axle you get grip and turn then put your foot back into it to make the next hill etc.. Its an art running off road in the patch,
