This November, America will elect either Barack Obama or John McCain as its next president. With Election Day quickly approaching, now is the time for Americans to make a choice as to who they want to run their country for the next four years. The next president has to be willing to handle a difficult challenge, as there are many issues in America that needs to be straightened out. I am encouraging everyone to go out and vote Barack Obama for the President of the United States. College costs, healthcare, gas prices and the economy are all on the rise. The cost of living is increasing each day and America needs a president who will come into office and regulate on the issues of the country; Barack Obama is the man for the job. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. His mother was a Caucasian woman from Kansas and his father (Barack Obama, Sr.) was from Kenya. Obama's parents separated shortly after he was born. He grew up with his mother in Hawaii and spent a few grade school years in Indonesia, the home of his mother's second husband. Barack Obama moved to New York after high school and graduated from Columbia University in 1983 and earned his law degree at Harvard University in 1991. Obama became the first African-American to become President of Harvard Law School. He later married Michelle Obama in 1992 and had two daughters. Obama served for seven years in the Illinois state Senate and won the race for U.S. Senate in 2004 by a landslide. Barack Obama has stated that he is running for president because America is hungry for a new type of politics. Obama thinks that America is facing some big problems and wants to make the country a better place to live. Senator Obama is clearly a man of the people, and that's the kind of person America needs running the country. Obama plans to help make living in America more affordable and easier to do. He plans to lower gas prices, help working families by raining the minimum wage and regulate taxes. He also wants to cut college costs and make health care more affordable. As a college student, I know first hand how bad tuition costs are. Many people have to pay over $20,000 just to attend school out of state and in-state students have to pay as much as $10,000. I want a person running my country who I know is looking out for me and the rest of America should too. Obama also plans to put programs in effect that will pull the troops out of Iraq. Since 2002, Obama has held a strong stance against the war in Iraq and his consistent opposition to the war shows the courageous and mature judgment needed in a president. Barack Obama is clearly the best man for the job. Minority citizens should stand up and stand behind an individual who is attempting to do something that has never been done before. In November, America has the chance to put an African-American man in office just over 50 years after segregation ended. There is still racism and prejudice in America and as far as African-Americans have come, nothing would be as beneficial and major to black people than to have one of them become the President of the United States. Barack Obama isn't running for president just to help black people, he wants to help each and every individual out who lives in America and that's more than we can say for our current president. America needs a person with courage and good political strength to run the country. America needs a president who is a man of the people and will do whatever it takes to bring change to the country. America needs Obama. I encourage everyone to go out on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 and vote for Barack Obama.
