This event is in solidarity with the National March For Mutual Respect taken place on the same date, in Indianapolis, Indiana. That peaceful event is being hosted by the Minister of Social Concerns @ Light of the World Christian Church Rev. Mmoja Ajabu. The event is due to the recent beating of a 15 year old African American male by Indianapolis Metropolitan police who questioned the police while they arrested his brother. The Marion County Prosecutor ruled that Brandon behave in no way that would rise to the level of being a crime. It is appalling! We have had many such beatings here in Boone County that have been enforced or supported by our courts and some of our citizens. We don't want to make this a race issue because the officers are white and Brandon is mixed. This issue is bigger than race. This is a citizen's rights issue. Just because we are American citizens the U. S. Constitution gives us the right to question police, whether we are Black or white, without being beat or arrested. Questioning a police officer rudely appears to suggest that it is a prosecutable crime and the accused deserves a beating and or prosecution. Nothing could be further from the truth. This type of behavior is constitutionally protected. Typically, in our town, an officer crossing over the line is usually deemed proper and just, through the use of the state prosecutor's office. But the prosecutor in Indianapolis has ruled that Brandon did nothing that would rise to the level of being a crime. The behavior of the police in this case is deplorable and disgusting.
Therefore, We are joining in Solidarity to bring awareness and to bring about changes to our broken criminal justice system.
