Here are my six Fancy Goldfish being fed some chopped up peas. Just ordinary frozen peas, defrosted and chopped. They love them and they are great for their guts.

My tank is 240L (Juwel Rio 240, 121cm x 44cm x 55 cm) with an Eheim Professional 3 600 external filter.

  • They are so cute!! Are those real plants in your tank?

  • @eurasianchica

Yeah, they are. I only use real plants, and they take up nitrates and such, plus they give the fish a sense of cover. I've got a thick variety of vallis (not sure which, bought ages ago) that they don't eat and it grows well and easy, plus an amazon sword of some kind. I also have some oxygenator and other stem plants which the fish can graze on like the like to do.

  • haha my goldies are so tiny that i have to chop the peas into quarters and use tweezers to hand feed them whilst mushing them up just before they put it in their mouth... it takes hours

  • Your black Oranda is amazing!

  • the big black one looks like an underwater bison.

  • The large black one is a beast! very cool.

  • @monkeydjinn Ok cool I can honestly say they love peas haha,

How many times a week should you give them veggies?

I tried Iceberg shredded lettuce but they hated it they dident touch it.

Veggies are much bigger than flakes and people say you give one flake per fish and they dont need no bigger than there eye pupil when veggies are much bigger or is that just a rumour?

And I might give them peas again today or shouldent I ?

  • @MrRawrllyX Be sure to read that article i linked you, very useful. I'd use the flake as a treat, and the veggies as the main diet. Peas, lettuce, broccoli tips, chopped blanched cucumber, defrosted sweetcorn. Try different thins, see what yours like. It won't cloud the water if you don't leave it in for long. Remove what they don't eat. And anything new you are trying out, just use a tiny bit first and see if they like it.

  • @monkeydjinn Cool!

I feed mine flakes all the time and now im gunna give them peas for a treat im going to try broccoli but wont it cloud up your water? I have a black moor and 2 orandas i think there orandas what diet do you think i should give them, there all still very small

  • @MrRawrllyX And fancies, due to their body shapes, can get blocked. So high fibre food is good. Vegggies daily for mine. I do use fish food - pellets - to supplement and balance the diet, but not as the main part of the diet.

Also, oats are good. High fibre. and they also help to develop the deep bodyshape. Breeders use them. Plus the fish LOVE them.

As with all foods, remove anytihng not eaten within a few minutes to save fouling the water. Little and often is the key.
