In about May 2009, these bumblebees made their nest in a garden compost bin in Wiltshire, England. If you look closely, I believe that you can see the queen laying an egg. The life cycle of a nest like this is only about three months; at the end, the workers raised new queens, killed the old queen and abandoned the nest. They did not return in 2010.
