Melissa is always after what is most modern and hip cool in design and style. The brand is a trendsetter and a project with Zaha Hadid only comes to confirm its philosophy.
This time, one of the most sought after accessories of the country sealed an exclusive partnership with one of the most prominent names of world architecture. Iraqis Zaha Hadid created especially for Summer 09 a footwear which shall be the biggest object of desire of the season.
Melissa + Zaha Hadid has round forms, strategic cuts and avant-garde design. According to the architect, the inspiration came from fluid movements which accompany the lines of the body. "The fluidity of our design combined perfectly with the technology of the plastic of Melissa, injecting pieces without closures or seals", she completes.
Another highlight of the Melissa + Zaha Hadid model is the strong work with forms, volumes and the game of proportions developed by the architect. "The asymmetry conducts to an inherent sense of movement to the design, evoking continuous transformations", explains Zaha.
Even though it is the first time that the architect creates a footwear, it was a project which gave her ideas through different forms. "Our office has 30 years of research on different areas of architecture and design and this was a very challenging project, not only in design but on the technical side. And there was great synergy, we worked very close to Melissa to transform our design in a reality". The responsible for this partnership is the General Manager of Melissa, Paulo Pedó, who dealt personally with all the details. "We went through a couple of months of negotiation and the result could not have been better. Melissa is once again recognized as an important setter of trend and behaviour", he says.
Melissa + Zaha Hadid will be available as from September 2008 and the colour palette promises to transform itself into an object of desire, as it is being personally selected by the architect.

Zaha Hadid - What makes Iraqis architect Zaha Hadid such a talented professional are her avant-garde ideas and creative energy. The first woman to ever win the disputed Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 2004, she began to do her own projects when 50 and turned into an icon. In the selected list of architects to ever win the Priztker is Oscar Niemeyer, of whom Zaha is a huge fan. In her two last visits to the country, the architect who lives and works in London visited his works in company of her assistants several times.
A graduate of the Architectural Association School of Architecture - London, her career began when she was invited, by one of her teachers, to become an associate of the metropolitan architecture Office, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Working in this office, she developed studies about architectural forms which are world recognized and formed a group of professionals tuned with her ideas of a new urbanism.
Internationally acclaimed, Hadid is first and foremost a theoretical influence. Some of her projects were never built, such as Peak Club Hong Kong (1983) and the Cardiff Bay Opera House, in Scotland (1994), and are studied until today.
The architect challenges conventions as well as notions of space. Her vision of architecture is very personal, original, and above all, optimistic. Though she dedicates herself to academic and theoretical work, Hadid, 57, is committed to modernism. Her most recent project is London Aquatic Centre, capable of hosting 20 thousand people and which shall be ready for the Olympic Games of 2012.
Another highlight is her itinerary Chanel® Mobile Art project, where various artists show their interpretation of the classic and emblematic bag of the Maison. The project of the futuristic pavilion has her signature and after put together in Hong Kong in April, currently in execution in Tokyo, shall travel to New York, London, Moscow and Paris.
