After generous liquid refreshment in the Officers' Mess of HMS Nelson, Lt.-Commander Woodrooffe attempted to describe the spectacle of the Illuminated fleet at the Royal Review, Spithead. The accompanying pictures were taken at Portland, also the scene of reviews of the great inter-war Royal Navy.

  • This made me laugh so hard I had tears rolling down my face...thank you for posting it :))

  • The song made by PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING called LIT UP uses this spoken word to create something very special.

  • I think that the excuse was that he, an old seadog, met up with a lot of old friends in ships that he served on. Royal Navy hospitality, being what it is, the drinks flowed freely so it was inevitable that he became "three sheets to the wind" Despite all that, its absolutely hillarious.

  • That was in the days when broadcasters were very uptight and "proper" and were certainly not supposed to get drunk on duty! This always makes me laugh.
