In the summer of 2009, in Providence, RI, an unprecedented collaboration occurred between city government, arts and community based organizations and individual artists to utilize funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to provide workforce training and jobs to young adults ages 14-24.
The Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, the Office of Mayor David N. Cicilline and Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston came together to provide 260 youth with work training in arts, technology and environmental jobs.
Harken Productions trained 6 youth in all aspects of video production and then took on the mission of documenting and filming all of these training programs happening around Providence this summer. The following is a short video of one of the programs we documented.
Thank you to our Sponsors- Brown University's Community Environmental College, RISD: Industrial Design, Catering, Office of Public Engagement and Res Life, Childhood Lead Action Project, and of course the City of Providence for making this program possible!
And thank you Harken Productions for putting together this great video! We love it!
