The lifespan of a replacement hip is mainly on the user/abuser. Activity level, Weight are the major issues. Patients can achieve 10+ years out of a quality hip as long as the patient isn't abusing it with Impact sports. Those that do abuse it will see less then 5 years before things work loose.
Many "brands" out there, not all parts are created equal. Research the brand before your rack & pinion is redone.

My mother had her hip replaced two years ago. She's getting along pretty good for an 84 yr old. Although it has affected her cornering on the twisties. Seriously, she gets along fine. Take care SC & rsmf

Congrats on the weight loss. I dropped 30 lbs a few years ago but I have let it creep back on.
My 84 year old dad has bad knees and was given an option of having replacement surgery. He decided not to. Sometimes the replacement surgeries work really well but other times they cause more problems (and pain) than they solve. its a tough call for sure...
