Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 14
by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924)
Didn't know Fauré wrote a violin concerto? I didn't either, until I came across this recording. Actually, it's just the first movement of a three-movement concerto - the other movements have been lost. It must have been composed in the mid to late 1870's, since Fauré's Op. 13 (Violin Sonata No. 1) and Op. 15 (Piano Quartet No. 1) date from the same period. I can't say much more about it, since the work is a rarity and information is sparse. If you know anything else about this concerto, please let me know.
