Jeremy Brett ended his riveting run as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous sleuth in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1994), the final set of episodes in the long-running Granada Television series.

With Dr. Watson (the also excellent Edward Hardwicke) absent from The Golden Pince-Nez, Holmes is joined by his brother Mycroft (Charles Gray) in an investigation into the murder of a secretary to a chain-smoking, invalid professor. Gray's amusing, inscrutable performance helps supplement that of the valiantly struggling Brett, whose considerable health problems a decade into the series are well known to his devoted fans.

  • That sharp, swift flick of the match... I shouldn't find that so terribly attractive, should I?

  • hahahaha "I must get out of here!"

I love how Mycroft solves the case and lets Sherlock figure it out himself.

  • @cabbitshivers There's no reason for you not to find it attractive. Brett was a decidedly handsome man. I would never judge. I have a crush on David Suchet. :D

  • ok i loath smoking but brett though it didnt help him at all made smoking look sexy as hell and no i dont smoke thank god but that ciggy how he sucks on it blows my mind drooooooolllllng

  • @kazuha17 He's likely had a varied career with multiple opponents. His other three defeats could've been due to bad luck or circumstance, or perhaps the cunning of the criminal.

  • @WlshMaggot Whoever that woman is, she has my sincerest admiration even though I'm a man and not British. To return to that after such a horrific experience is a kind of bravery I will never know. It's proof positive that your gender doesn't meant diddily squat when it comes to what kind of person you are. As for Mycroft and Hopkins' comments here, well, they're just men of their time, unfortunately.

  • @Soloman1001 Aw, I like Hopkins. I loved his enthusiastic re-enactment of Smith's murder.

  • @greengrendel why they did modified Holmes story that way

  • Why so much sexism in the comments, lol.

  • i have a question and its bothers me the whole time. Holmes said once he was four times defeaded. 3 times by man and 1 time by a woman. Okay the woman is Irene Adler but where are the three man.Maybe Mycroft and his father?

  • woman: im not gonna tell you again..

  • man, I feel incredibly bad for those poor women.

Nigel Planner as in Neil from the Young Ones? Who's he playing?
